Raffle Licenses

APPLICATION FOR RAFFLE LICENSE

Many local organizations have 50/50s and tricky trays to fundraise for notable causes.  These games require licensure by the State of New Jersey and the Borough of Bergenfield.  No organization can begin any portion of a raffle or bingo without a license from the Borough Clerk.

Every organization interested in conducting raffles or bingo, must first apply to the New Jersey Legalized Games of Chance Control Commission (LGCCC) for eligibility.   If eligible, LGCCC will issue the organization a Biennial Registration Certificate with an Identification Number.

The biennial registration certificate must be presented to the Borough Clerk’s office when completing a Raffle or Bingo application.   In addition to the registration certificate, please bring four (4) originally signed and notarized copies of the application, a check made payable to Legalized Games of Chance in the amount of $20 (or $20 for each $1,000 in prizes or part thereof), and a check made payable to the Borough of Bergenfield in the amount of $20 per raffle being held.   Fees vary depending on the type of game being held. An off-premise 50/50 cash or merchandise raffle, when tickets are sold in advance, must also include a sample ticket with the application.  Please note, applications must be signed and notarized by the officer of the organization and members-in-charge.  We also require their date of birth or a copy of their driver’s license, as background checks need to be conducted by the Police Department.

Applications should be submitted to the Borough Clerk’s office at least three weeks prior to event date, as the process takes at least 15 business days to complete.  Upon approval, the Borough Clerk has to forward the application to LGCCC by mail for final approval.  If there are no issues, the license will be provided by the Borough Clerk.

Please be advised, LGCCC investigates Raffles and Bingos regularly and does issue stiff penalties to violators.
