Bergenfield asks Residents to Call DPW to Schedule Pick up of Flood Related Garbage

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- The Borough is asking residents with storm related damage from last week to call the DPW at (201) 387-4055 ext. 3 to schedule pick up. The DPW will pick-up storm related items only. Because the Federal Government has declared NJ as a "State of Emergency", the DPW is required to document the homes damaged and maintain records for the work they are conducting related to this storm. Please be patient if your garbage is not collected immediately as there are delays at the garbage dumps due to the overwhelming damgage casued throughout the State from this latest storm.

 

Ribbon Cutting Held for New Bergenfield Business BB Records 

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- Mayor Amatorio and Councilmen Lodato and Pascual joined members of the community for a ribbon cutting ceremony to welcome a new small business, BB Records to Bergenfield. BB Records will display music memorabilia and will sell vinyl records.

 

“I would like to welcome BB Records to Bergenfield and I wish Bob Schmelz all the luck in the world with his new business,” said Mayor Amatorio. “Bob is a passionate music fan that was born and raised in Bergenfield and is now looking to share his passion with our community. Please consider visiting his store and seeing what it has to offer.” 

 

Store owner Bob Schmelz is a lifelong music fan and collector. He has decided to turn his hobby into a small business, where he will proudly display his memorabilia. The store is located at 24 S. Front Street in Bergenfield.

Bergenfield Public Library Awarded $25,000 Grant to Purchase Exterior Pick Up Lockers

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- The Bergenfield Public Library has been awarded a $25,000 grant that will allow them to purchase exterior pick up lockers. These lockers, once installed, will allow library patrons to pick up their requested materials outside of normal hours of operation. 

 

“I am thrilled to see that the Bergenfield Public Library has received this well deserved grant money that will help them assist our residents even more,” said Mayor Amatorio. “Throughout the pandemic library staff has done a tremendous job ensuring that residents could easily access valuable library services and for that I thank them.”

 

Residents will be able to scan their library card and the specific locker holding their particular items will open. Available services will include electronic resources like eBooks and eAudiobooks as well as streaming content.  

 

“This grant money will go a long way in helping us improve library services and the purchase of these lockers would not be possible without it,” said Library Director Allison Ballo. “These lockers will help create a library that's available to residents 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.”

 

"All Hours Access" at the Bergenfield Library is supported with funds provided by the Institute of Museum and Library Services, administered by the New Jersey State Library.

 

Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps Named Greatest Thing About Bergenfield by Nj.com

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- The Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps has been named the greatest thing about Bergenfield by Nj.com. The BVAC provides free emergency transportation to over 2000 Bergenfield residents every year on a 24/7 basis. 

 

“I am proud of the incredible, lifesaving work that our BVAC does every year and I am thrilled to see them recognized for their service,” said Mayor Amatorio. “The men and women of the BVAC take time out of their busy schedules to help members of our community every day and are a tremendous example of the special people that make up Bergenfield.” 

 

The BVAC has 60 volunteers that take on a 12 hour weekday shift as well as two 12 hour weekend shifts. The BVAC has been in service to the community since 1941.

Bergenfield Food Pantry Hours Changing to Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm

BERGENFIELD, NJ – Effective Tuesday September 7ththe hours of the Bergenfield food pantry will change to Monday-Friday from 8:30am-4:30pm. Please note that access to the food pantry will be by appointment only going forward for any resident wishing to visit. To schedule an appointment, please call 201-387-4055 ext. 4160. 

“It has been a top priority of our Borough to ensure that no family goes hungry as a result of this pandemic,” said Mayor Amatorio. “Our food pantry has done a tremendous job over the last year and a half in particular and will continue to help residents in need going forward.”

The food pantry is located within Borough Hall at 198 N. Washington Avenue and has been serving Bergenfield residents in need since the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. Visitors to the building and to the pantry will be required to wear a mask for the protection of themselves and others.
