Bergenfield Parks Update

Bergenfield Municipal Parks Will Remain Closed This Weekend To Allow Time to Evaluate COVID-19 Data

BERGENFIELD, N.J. -- Municipal parks in the Borough of Bergenfield will remain closed throughout the weekend to allow officials time to properly analyze data trends with the local COVID-19 outbreak. This measure is continuing to be enforced out of an abundance of caution and the decision will be re-evaluated in the coming week based on the most up to date testing numbers as well as other critical factors.

“The health and safety of Bergenfield residents remains our top priority as we continue to address the COVID-19 outbreak in our community,” said Mayor Arvin Amatorio. “Bergenfield has been one of the harder hit municipalities in New Jersey and any reopening plans need to be done responsibly. This is not a decision we make lightly, especially with the weather beginning to warm, but at this time we cannot risk erasing the progress we’ve already made.”

Residents are reminded if they leave their home for essential travel or outdoor recreation to follow social distancing guidelines. Cyclists, joggers and runners are encouraged to utilize the streets and neighborhoods with less pedestrian traffic.

“Health officials and the Mayor and Council will continue to monitor new testing and recovery numbers daily and we are hopeful that our municipal parks can reopen in the coming weeks,” said Council President and Parks and DPW Committee Chairman Rafael Marte. “The residents of Bergenfield have shown incredible resilience during this crisis and we look forward to responsibly reopening our facilities to provide safe places to enjoy the outdoors and get exercise.”
