Free Tree Seedlings for Residents

UPDATE: There are no more tree seedlings left - the last one was given away on Monday 5/3/2021. Please check the Borough website next March/April to see if there will be more tree seedlings to give away in 2022. Thank you!

In case you weren't able to make the free tree seedling give-a-way at Cooper's Pond Park on Sunday 4/25/2021, then please know that there are still free tree seedlings available for distribution to New Jersey residents.

The Borough of Bergenfield has the following tree seedlings available still:

  • White Flowering Dogwood, Cornus florida
  • Black Gum, Nyssa sylvatica
  • Pin Oak, Quercus palustris
  • White Pine, Pinus strobus
  • Mockernut Hickory, Carya tomentosa

The tree seedlings are bare-root and about 1 foot to 2 feet in height currently. The tree seedlings will be wrapped up and bagged for you, and planting instructions will be provided. Quadrant 4 (Southwest) Bulk Pickup Wed 4/28/21

There is bulk garbage pick-up in Quadrant 4 (Southwest Quadrant) this Wednesday 4/28/2021.

Bulk garbage pick-up is on schedule for all quadrants as listed on the 2021 garbage & recycling pick-up schedule calendars. Please reference your 2021 pick-up schedule calendar for the bulk (B) pick-up day in your quadrant. 2021 garbage & recycling pick-up schedule calendars may be found by clicking HERE.

As a reminder, please note:

- Bulk pickup is for residential properties ONLY.

- The DPW does NOT pickup contractor debris, concrete, bricks, asphalt, rocks, mortar, stone, cultured stone, or any stone-like material, wet paint, chemicals, tires, fluorescent lightbulbs, vehicle batteries, rechargeable batteries, propane/fuel tanks, fire extinguishers, TVs, computer monitors, computer towers/computer CPUs, laptops, tablets, printers, fax machines.

- The limit per bulk day is 4 pieces of household furniture, 2 household appliances (ex. air conditioning (AC) unit, oven, washer, dryer, refrigerator - DOORS MUST BE OFF), and 1 carpet or rug that does not exceed 12 feet in length and/or 1 foot in diameter (including the pad) or a mixture of fragments from a carpet or rug of said size. The DPW will not collect carpets removed professionally.

- Water heaters must have a Borough-issued inspection sticker on them, or they will not be picked up. Please call the Building Department to schedule an inspection: 201-387-4055 option 4.

- Bulk may not be placed at the curb any earlier than 6:00pm the night before bulk pick-up collection in your quadrant. Bulk may be placed at the curb after 6:00pm the night before bulk pick-up collection day in your quadrant. Bulk must be placed at the curb at least before 6:00am on the bulk pick-up collection day in your quadrant.

- There is bulk pick-up on scheduled bulk pick-up days only. There are no special pick-ups. Please reference your 2021 pickup schedule calendar for the bulk (B) pickup day in your quadrant by clicking HERE.

The Bergenfield Recycling Center hours are Mon-Fri 8:00am-3:00pm, Sat 9:00am-1:00pm, Sun 1:00pm-4:00pm (closed on holidays).

- PAINT must be dried solid & put out at curb on bulk (B) pickup day ONLY with the lid off. Wet paint must be taken by the resident to a BCUA Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event. Due to the COVID-19 safety restrictions that will be implemented to ensure the safety of employees and residents attending BCUA collection events, please be advised that there may be wait times. Please plan accordingly.

Did you know? The BCUA (County) reopened their Computer and Electronics Recycling Depot on 8/20/2020 at the BCUA's Little Ferry/Moonachie facility.

The BCUA operates a NJDEP approved Computer and Electronics Recycling Depot for all Bergen County residents. All types of computer and electronic equipment are collected for recycling. The Computer and Electronics Recycling Depot is open Monday through Friday by appointment between the hours of 9:00 AM - 2:00 PM. Contact the BCUA Environmental Programs Hotline at 201-807-5825 for more information.

Vegetative Waste Pickup Begins 4/5/21

Regular weekly vegetative waste pickup begins Monday 4/5/21. Please review your quadrant's 2021 garbage & recycling pickup schedule calendar for the vegetative waste pickup day in your quadrant. Vegetative waste pickup days are marked with the letter "V" on the front of the garbage & recycling pickup schedule calendar. Please also review the guidelines on the back of the pickup schedule calendar under the "Vegetative Waste (V) - Grass, Leaves, Branches, Yard Waste" section.

Vegetative waste may be placed in paper bags or in 32-gallon size or less containers that are no heavier than 50 lb each. No plastic bags. Branches must be cut into 4-feet lengths, bundled, tied, and placed directly at the curb. Please place vegetative waste at the curb no earlier than 6:00pm the evening before a vegetative waste pickup day in your quadrant or before 6:00am on the day of a vegetative waste pickup day in your quadrant.
