Bergenfield Receives Platinum Award for Impressive Employee Work Environment Safety Record

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- Bergenfield Mayor Arvin Amatorio was joined recently by Councilman Rafael Maerte, Borough Administrator Corey Gallo, Fire Department Captain Robert Byrnes Jr., and Borough Risk Manager Ezio Altamura at the annual Bergen County Joint Insurance Fund (JIF) Safety Incentive Awards Ceremony, as he accepted the “Platinum Certificate of Achievement” on behalf of the borough. This is the JIF’s highest award and Bergenfield was one of only eight cities to receive it, given in recognition of the borough’s safe employee work environment as well as its exceptional training of staff.

“I was extremely honored and proud to receive this award on behalf of the borough,” said Mayor Amatorio of the award ceremony. “Bergenfield is consistently ranked as one of the safest places in America and our record speaks for itself…this is truly an ideal place where people feel comfortable and confident in raising their families.”

“This is a tremendous accomplishment and without question demonstrates our borough's continued pledge to educating our employees best practices and the value of workplace safety,”  “Bergenfield has deservedly earned a reputation as being a community where both residents and employees can have peace of mind because of our professionalism, courtesy, and commitment to safety.”

Bergenfield is one of 38 cities who participate in the JIF, which is a consortium of cities that have regionalized to provide their own cost effective property and casualty insurance as well as workers compensation insurance. As the oldest municipal joint insurance fund in the state, the impetus of the regionalization effort is to avoid costly insurance premiums through risk management and safety programs. The JIF is regulated by the state’s Department of Banking and Insurance and the New Jersey Department of Community Affairs.

Mayor Arvin Amatorio Launches the Borough of Bergenfield Mayor’s Wellness Campaign 2022 to Promote Healthy Living

BERGENFIELD, NJ -- Mayor Amatorio once again hosts a wellness campaign to promote healthy living. This program will include daily wellness activities between April 24 and June 17, starting with a kick-off on April 24 at Conlon Hall.

“Last year, we began this campaign to combat COVID-19 and promote general health and wellness. After an overwhelming success last year, we have decided to continue this campaign again in 2022 as we move past the health emergency,” said Mayor Amatorio. “We are launching this campaign to get Bergenfield on a path to good health by providing these daily wellness activities that I hope residents will continue to do even after this program ends.

Because of the overwhelming level of interest and excitement that existed for last year’s program, the 2022 Mayor’s Wellness Program has expanded even more by offering programs for all ages and interests. There will be Zumba, Yoga, line dancing, Tae Kwon Do, a walk at the park, health education, and various surprises that would enhance both the physical and mental well-being of the residents.

The mayor extends his appreciation to the phenomenal Mayor’s Wellness Campaign Champions, sponsors, volunteers, and the Bergenfield Health Department for helping us to make this possible.

Single-Use Carryout Bag and Styrofoam Food Containers Ban to Go Into Effect May 4

BERGENFIELD, NJ – On May 4, 2022, the statewide ban on single-use carryout bags and polystyrene foam will take effect, having an impact on business owners as well as consumers. The new law will prohibit stores and restaurants from providing these single-use items in an effort to help the environment and cut down on waste.

“In the coming days, businesses in Bergenfield and throughout the state will no longer be able to distribute these single-use items that we have gotten used to. As this state ban will impact residents as well as our business owners, it is our goal to educate the public to make this process go smoothly for all of us,” said Mayor Amatorio. “I am asking that the businesses in our community begin making plans for this adjustment soon to limit any possible disruption to your business.”

Additionally, grocery stores larger than 2,500 square feet will not be allowed to provide or sell single-use paper carryout bags. These stores will only be permitted to sell reusable bags to their customers.

For more detailed information on the new law and to see all items that this impacts, go to https://www.nj.gov/dep/get-past-plastic/
