Memorial Day Parade 2011

image regarding 2011 Memorial Day Parade in BergenfieldOnce again, the Bergenfield Mayor and Council call upon all our organizations, large and small, to participate in the Memorial Day Parade to be held on Monday, May 30, 2011  at 2:30 p.m., rain or shine.

With military, civic, patriotic, fraternal, religious, youth, social, school, business and service organizations in the line of march – interspersed with floats and six to eight marching bands – our Annual Memorial Day Parade has become one of the best in the County.

General John A. Logan, commander-in-chief of the veterans’ group, the Grand Army of the Republic, made a formal proclamation designating May 30, 1868 as a day of remembrance of the nation’s war dead.  The holiday was originally intended to honor the Civil War dead but unfortunately, that was not the last conflict that American soldiers lost their lives in, and after World War I, the holidays’ purpose was expanded to include all Americans lost to war.  Memorial Day is a day for remembering “those who gave their last full measure of devotion” and to recognize all our veterans who have fought and are still fighting globally and have “saved the world”.

If your organization would like to participate in our annual parade, please contact the Bergenfield Borough Clerk’s Office at 201 387-4055  Option 6 or Recreation Department at Ext. 4151.

Councilman Charles Steinel, Chair
Joseph Scalora, Veterans Committee
John Scagliotti, Director of Recreation

NOTE:  We will assemble on West Church Street and North Prospect Avenue, proceeding south on Prospect Avenue onto New Bridge Road passing the reviewing stand at Veterans Memorial Park.  Lineup information will be forwarded to all participants prior to the date of the parade.
