Safe Sitter Class 9/21/24 Registration Open

The Bergenfield Health Department registration is now open for our SAFESITTER CLASS on Saturday, September 21st, from 9 AM to 2 PM.

The class will be held on the 2nd Floor of Borough Hall.

Summer Concert Series 2024 August Concert

The third installment of our Summer Concert Series at Cooper's Pond.

Live Music: Fillet of Soul

Fillet of Soul is a high energy Funk/Soul band laying down 70's - 80's hits from artists such as "Earth Wind and Fire", "Sly and the Family Stone", "O'Jays", "Al Green" and many others. The group consists of four singers projecting soulful melodic leads along with fully blended background harmonies. The instrumental section is made up of drums, bass, guitar, keys and horns that provide an "in the pocket groove" that touches you deep down in your soul. Put it all together and you have a great night of entertainment.

Mosquito Control Spray 8/16/2024

Bergen County Mosquito Control will be performing an early morning ULV Truck Spray in Bergenfield on:

Friday, August 16th,

between the hours of 3:00-6:00 AM.

Spraying of Duet adulticide to eliminate active, adult mosquitoes as well as Vectobac larvacide to help control the mosquito larvae. As a precaution, please keep windows closed. In the event that it rains, the spray will be postponed until Saturday August 17th.

Bergenfield is bringing the MVC to you!

The Mobile MVC will be visiting Cooper's Pond
Monday, August 12th, 2024
10am-2pm.
 
The MVC Mobile Unit can process registration renewals, handicap placards, veterans' designations, surrender license plates, and REAL ID requests. Drivers must sign up prior to arrival, as spaces are limited.

JUNE 7, 1943 â€“ JULY 22, 2024
Obituary of Richard James Bohan Sr.

Richard J. Bohan Sr. 81 of Toms River passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Monday, July 22, 2024. Richard led a rich and fulfilling life, leaving behind a legacy of service and creativity. His dedication to his family, community and profession shines through his many roles and accomplishments. He was the beloved husband to Grace (Longo) Bohan, beloved father to Kelly Marie (Bohan) Reese, Kristine Ann (Bohan) Corcoran and Richard J. Bohan Jr. Loving grandfather of Trevor and Curtis Reese and Elijah and Evelyn Bohan. As a florist for over five decades, he brought beauty into people's lives through Flowers by Richard in Bergenfield, NJ. Beyond his floral career, Richard served his community with distinction: as a Councilman and Mayor of Bergenfield, and in leadership roles within organizations like St. Johns K of C #1345, Bergenfield Unico, and the Garden Club of Bergenfield. His commitment to faith was evident through teaching CCD and serving as a Eucharistic Minister at Ascension Church in New Milford, NJ.

Richards move to Toms River brought new avenues of community involvement, including overseeing the decorating committee, serving as President of the Social Club and being elected as a member of the HCS Trustee committee.

His life will be remembered and celebrated at a viewing on July 30, 2024 at the Quinn-Hopping Funeral Home, 26 Mule Rd., Toms River, NJ. Rich's memory will continue to inspire those who know him, reflecting a life well-lived in service, creativity and a love for others.

In lieu of flowers donations in Richard's name to the St. John Council Knights of Columbus # 1345, 61 Armour Place, Dumont, NJ 07628.

Passing of Former Councilwoman Dolores Butler

We are deeply saddened to learn of the passing of Dolores Butler, former Bergenfield Councilwoman and current Rent Leveling Board Member. Dolores was a dedicated public servant who tirelessly worked for the betterment of our community. Her contributions and commitment to Bergenfield will be remembered fondly by all who had the privilege of knowing her.

Obituary: Dolores Butler (née Andrea)

Dolores Butler, born Dolores Andrea on October 7, 1936, in Jersey City, peacefully passed away on July 21, 2024. She was the cherished mother of Gregory P. Butler and his wife Wendy Pontrelli, and James C. Butler and his wife Maria. Dolores was a loving grandmother to Brittany and Matthew Butler, step grandmother to Kaitlyn and John Jay, and great grandmother to Carmine and also a dear aunt to Jay, Bill, and Ruth Butler. She was predeceased by her beloved husband, George F. Butler.

Dolores led a life dedicated to public service and community. She began her notable career as a Bergenfield Councilwoman in the 1970s spanning three decades. Her leadership and commitment were exemplified by multiple terms as Bergenfield Council President, a distinction honored by the New Jersey State League of Municipalities. Dolores was recognized for her contributions by the Bergen County Democratic Organization and served on various boards including the Special Improvement District, Zoning Board of Adjustment, and Rent Leveling Board. She also served with distinction as a Bergen County Elections Commissioner, Bergenfield Democratic Committee Woman, and Bergenfield Municipal Alliance Liaison. Dolores was actively involved in community service as a member of the Rotary Club and Italian American Club and a lifetime member of the New Jersey Education Association.

Dolores also worked full-time at the Tenafly Board of Education while raising her two sons with love and devotion.

The loss of Dolores Butler, a dedicated public servant and loving mother, leaves a profound void in both her community and her family's hearts. Her unwavering commitment to service and the warmth of her maternal love will be deeply missed by all who were touched by her life.

Visiting hours will be held on Thursday from 3-8 PM at Riewerts Memorial Home, 187 So. Washington Ave., Bergenfield. A funeral mass will be celebrated on Friday at St. John the Evangelist R.C. Church, 29 No. Washington Ave., Bergenfield. Family and friends will gather at 9:45 AM, with the mass beginning at 10 AM. Entombment will follow the funeral mass at St. Joseph Cemetery in Hackensack.

Dolores Butler's legacy and profound impact on her community will be remembered and cherished by all who had the privilege of knowing her.
