Quadrant 3 (Southeast) Bulk Pickup Wednesday 7/19/23

There is a bulk pick-up in Quadrant 3 (Southeast) on Wednesday, July 19th, 2023.

Bulk garbage pickup is on schedule for all quadrants as listed on the 2023 Garbage & Recycling Pickup schedule calendars. Please reference your 2023 pickup calendar to the (B) pick up in your quadrant. 2023 garbage & recycling calendar can be found by clicking HERE.

As a reminder, please note:

-Bulk pickup is for residential purposes ONLY.

-The DPW does NOT pick up contractor debris, concrete, bricks, asphalt, rocks, mortar, stone, cultured stone or any stone-like materials, wet paint, chemicals, tires, fluorescent lightbulbs, vehicle batteries, rechargeable batteries, propane/fuel tanks, fire extinguishers, TVs, computer monitors, computer towers/computer CPUs, laptops, tablets, printers or fax machines.

-The limit per bulk day is 4 pieces of household furniture, 2 household appliances (ex. air conditioning (AC) unit), oven, washer, dryer, refrigerator (DOOR MUST BE OFF), and 1 carpet or rug that does not exceed 12 feet in length and/or 1 foot in diameter (including the pad) or a mixture of fragments from carpet or rug of said size. The DPW will not collect carpet removed professionally. 

-Water heaters must have borough-issued inspection stickers on them, or they will not be picked up. Please call the Building Department to schedule an inspection, 201-387-4055, option 4.

-Bulk may not be placed at the curb any earlier than 6:00pm the night before the scheduled bulk pick-up days. Bulk must be ready no later than 6:00am on the schedule day of the bulk pick-up.

-There is a bulk pick-up on scheduled bulk pick-up days ONLY. There are no special pick-ups. Please reference your 2023 pickup schedule calendar for the bulk (B) pickup day in your quadrant by clicking HERE.

-Please take the following items to a BCUA collection event: wet paint, chemicals, tires, fluorescent lightbulbs, vehicle batteries, rechargeable batteries, propane/fuel tanks, fire extinguishers, and electronics. For 2023 BCUA Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events and BCUA 2023 Tire Recycling/Electronics Recycling/Mobile Paper Shredding/Unwanted Medication Collection Event locations, dates, times and list of accepted items, please click HERE.

-The DPW does NOT collect bricks, mortar, stone, concrete, cultured stone, or any stone-like materials: the homeowner must dispose of these privately. All bulk refuse generated by a private contractor (construction debris), or trade waste generated by any business, shall be removed at their own expense and risk. 

-The following electronics ONLY are accepted at the Bergenfield DPW building: TVs, computer monitors, computer towers/computer CPUs, laptops, tablets, printers, and fax machines. The Bergenfield DPW is located at 198 N. Washington Ave, Bergenfield. Office hours are Mon-Fri 7:30am-3:00pm. The electronic drop off is closed on weekends and holidays. 

-PAINT must be dried solid and put out at the curb for bulk (B) pickup days ONLY with the lid off. Wet paint must be taken by the resident to a BCUA Household Hazardous Waste Collection Event. For 2023 BCUA Household Hazardous Waste Collection Events and BCUA 2023 Tire Recycling/Electronics/Mobile Paper Shredding/Unwanted Medication Collection Event locations, dates, times and list of accepted items, please click HERE.

Bergen County Movie & Concert Series 2023

County Executive Jim Tedesco and the Board of County Commissioners announce the return of the Bergen County Movies and Music in the Park Summer Series. The series will feature 26 events at five locations across Bergen County beginning on July 6. All concerts and movies are free and open to the public. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs and/or blankets for viewing.
Four of the summer concerts will be held, in partnership with the Borough of North Arlington, at The Stage at Riverside County Park–South, the BRAND NEW community performance space.

VFW Post 6467 First Responder and Teacher Awards

VFW Post 6467 First Responder and Teacher Awards
 
At Tuesday's (6/20/23) Mayor and Council Meeting the VFW Post 6467 presented awards to four outstanding members of our community. Three first responders and one teacher were honored see below for brief descriptions of each recipient.
 
Firefighter Damont Brown: Is an integral part of FMBA Local 65 of the Bergenfield Fire Department, a career firefighter for 10 years, holding a plethora of state certifications which include fire inspector, fire official, fire officer 1 & 2, fire investigator, incident safety officer.

Police Officer John Galarza: A Police Officer with the Bergenfield Police Department for the past 18 years. Officer Galarza is also a U.S. ARMY veteran, originally, he started his career in Law Enforcement with the Paterson Police Department. Officer Galarza has been a Patrol Officer with the Borough since 2005 and moved on to the Records Bureau in 2015. He has held multiple positions including Evidence Officer, TAC Officer, LESO Officer, Resiliency Officer (Cop2Cop), and I.T./Network Support for the entire Police Department.

Ahmos Silvera: Deputy Chief Ahmos Silvera has been an Emergency Medical Technician with the Bergenfield Volunteer Ambulance Corps for the past 9 years. Deputy Chief Silvera has distinguished himself as an EMT who is devoted to serving the Bergenfield community. Ahmos has a bachelor’s degree in psychology from City College of New York and plans to attend medical school.

Deana Rothenberg: Mrs. Rothenberg has taught English as a Second Language at Bergenfield High School, working tirelessly to improve her students’ verbal language skills. Mrs. Rothenberg has welcomed students that are new to Bergenfield and new to this country. Mrs. Rothenberg has supported her students by attending concerts and performances. To Mrs. Rothenberg "teaching is not what you do, it’s who you are." We wish you well in your retirement.
